How to open Canon CR2 format photo in Snapseed? Why can’t Snapseed open RAW format file captures from a Canon DSLR camera? We shall discuss these points but before that let’s have a brief introduction about Snapseed.
Snapseed is one of the most used photo editing apps on Android smartphones as it offers vast editing tools. One of the reasons why this is my personal favourite editing app is that it supports RAW format images, allowing you to get more details out of a photo. It means that if you are clicking photos using a smartphone which is capable of shooting in RAW, you can use that RAW format file to edit in Snapseed.
Snapseed supports RAW files but in .DNG format, and the RAW format extension of a Canon DSLR is .CR2. The reason why you are able to open a photo clicked using a smartphone and not a Canon DSLR is because the smartphone shoots in .dng format.
But you shall be happy to know that there is a way following which you shall be edit RAW format files clicked using a Canon DSLR camera. All you have to do is convert the .cr2 format file to .dng format using an Android app.
1. Download RAW2DNG Android app from Google Play Store
2. Open the app and look for the .cr2 extension file. Select the file and then tap on the ‘convert’ tap
3. Once the file has been converted from .cr2 to .dng, open the Snapseed app and tap on the .dng file
4. That’s it, you are now ready to edit the RAW file capture using your Canon DSLR in Snapseed
